Karuna telephones Maithri from Mahinda’s home!

Former deputy minister Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan alias Karuna Amman, whom the media has reported to have joined the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna, had a lengthy telephone conversation with president Maithripala Sirisena from the home of UPFA general secretary Mahinda Amaraweera, on the night of the same day he met with ex-minister Basil Rajapaksa.

After meeting Basil at the SLPP office at Battaramulla, Karuna Amman had gone to Amarawera’s home and asked that he be allowed to speak to the president. Amaraweera took a call to the president from his phone and gave it to Karuna Amman.

Reliable sources say they had a conversation for more than 10 minutes, during which the president stressed that he would not interfere in judicial or CID investigations. The prime minister too, will not intervene and ministers will not be allowed to do so either, he stressed.

Karuna Amman has said that he had gone to SLPP office at Basil’s invitation and that he had no need to have a clash with the government. He is accused over many murders in Colombo before the end of the war. The CID has uncovered important information about these killings. Soon, a secretary of Karuna Amman is to be arrested, a CID official said.
